Graubünden, Arosa to host theALPS 2014 in September

In 2014, the international event for tourism specialists, theALPS, will be held for the first time in Switzerland. The venue is the renowned tourist destination of Arosa in the partner region of Graubünden, on September 16 and 17. The AlpNet support association will thus receive a boost from two more Swiss regions, namely the Bernese Oberland and the Lake Lucerne region.

Following on from Tyrol and the Rhône Alps, Graubünden will host theALPS 2014 this year.  The event will be organised and staged by Arosa Tourismus in close cooperation with Graubünden Ferien (holidays).  Once again, at the fourth theALPS, around 300 leading decision makers in the field of tourism from the entire Alpine region along with their business partners from all over the world are expected to attend.

Arosa has been amongst the traditional holiday destinations of Switzerland for over 100 years.  The road weaves for over 20 km from the Graubünden Canton capital Chur to the picturesque, climatic health resort of Arosa, 1,800 m above sea-level, at the end of the Schanfigg valley.  “Our fourth theALPS will be inspired not only by the mountain air, but also by the friendly atmosphere of this traditional tourist destination”.  Josef Margreiter, President of AlpNet and chief executive of the partner Tirol Werbung states convincingly.  “In Arosa and Graubünden we haven’t merely found an effectual and attractive location once again, but also highly motivated and professional promoters, who are doing everything possible to make the Swiss premier of theALPS a success”.

At the present time, eight leading tourism organisations from the European alpine regions are supporting the initiative.  In 2012 already, Graubünden, Rhône-Alpes, Südtirol, Tirol, Trentino and Wallis came together under the aegis of the assosciation AlpNet. With this first event in Switzerland, the Swiss regions Berne-Bernese Oberland using the tourism trade mark BE! Tourismus and Lake Lucerne have both joined.  Our over-arching alpine network is thus further strengthened by two key alpine regions with internationally known tourist destinations such as Adelboden, Gstaad, Interlaken, Engelberg-Titlis or Andermatt.

The directors responsible for tourism, Harry John, BE!Tourimus AG and Marcel Perren, Luzern Tourismus AG, are totally motivated as regards joining. “As well as the valuable exchange of know-how, we wish to avail ourselves of the network in order to make the leading tourism regions of the Alps more visible.  We will all benefit from careful use of synergies and an even stronger positioning of the Alps in international competition”.

theALPS – meeting point of leading tourism decision makers in alpine tourism

The evolution of the international event for tourism specialists theALPS began in Tyrol.  On an initiative from Tyrol, in close cooperation with other leading alpine regions, the first full version of theALPS took place in 2011 in Innsbruck – including theALPS Trading Room, theALPS Symposium and theALPS Award.

Following the founding of the support network AlpNet, the AlpNet partner Rhône-Alpes Tourisme took on the role of host in 2013 and welcomed around 300 leading decision makers in the field of alpine tourism in Chamonix-Mont Blanc.  Roughly 100 selected business partners from 32 nations world-wide used the opportunity in the Alps Trading Room to establish and further contacts – to further develop previous b2b fairs and to establish contact with leading decision makers of tourism organisations, sales groups, hotels and leisure activity providers from all of the AlpNet countries.  Aside from the event itself, participants also had the opportunity to personally get to know the area around the event using the post tours.  The presentations from experts at the theALPS Symposium brought fresh valuable momentum as did the introduction of the theALPS Award nominees and the winner.
