YOG meant Gold for Tirol

At the close of the 1st Youth Olympic Winter Games (YOG) the Tirol Tourist Board draws a positive conclusion. The world’s biggest sports and culture event for the youth has put the number one winter sports region of the Alps in the international spotlight. Tirol Tourist Board thanks YOG volunteers for their excellent work

They make up the very backbone of the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck: the 1,400 volunteers coming from more than 50 different countries. Their tireless and unpaid commitment turns the YOG into an unparalleled sports and culture festival. In order to thank the hard-working helpers, the Tirol Tourist Board invites them to be guests themselves and explore the number one Alpine holiday destination during their time off. YOG put Tirol in the spotlight of the sports world

When taking stock of the initial phase of the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games in Tirol, the results exceed all expectations. More than 700 journalists from 81 countries have been accredited for the Games in Innsbruck, Seefeld and Kühtai. Over 20 TV channels from all four corners of the world broadcast jaw-dropping pictures of the sports events taking place against the backdrop of a spectacular winter landscape deeply covered in snow. 15,000 enthusiastic spectators attended the opening ceremony Friday evening during which the Olympic cauldron was lit for the third time at the Bergisel, making Tirol the only region worldwide chosen to host Olympic Games three times.
